WHAT IS LIFE LIKE IN TYUMEN ?

Better than in many other cities in Russia . Higher salaries, a continental climate that is good for your health, swimming in summer, and skiing in winter; a stable social atmosphere which is the result of different peoples living side by side over the centuries – Russians, Tatars, Germans, Ukrainians, Komi, Belorussians, etc. Different faiths, different traditions, but a common life. We have never experienced ethnic conflict. An Orthodox church and a Muslim mosque can be located within two kilometers of each other, with a Jewish synagogue half way between them.

WHAT IS TYUMEN LIKE?

Rapid industrial development, social and political stability, and a high standard of living make it clear why this region is so attractive to investors, including foreign ones. The history of Tyumen State Oil-and-Gas University

is closely connected with the history of Siberian oil. Discovery of “black gold” in the Tyumen region has changed the structure of economics in the region drastically. In the 1960s more than 50 oil and gas fields appeared on the map of the Tyumen region. It took little time for Tyumen , a small town, to become the renowned oil capital.

1953 was the beginning of a new stage of development of the region. It was the year when Berezovo's stratigraphic well produced the first artificial gas yield in Siberia . Seven years later, in 1960, the first oil field was discovered not far from the settlement Shaim. During the period from 1960s to 1980s, the Tyumen region became a huge building site. A strong fuel and energy region had been developed in the small amount of time. Railways began running throughout the Taiga and marshes, the chemical plant on Irtish river was rapidly developing, also new towns and settlements were being built… ..( continued )

From possibility to reality. University structure

In 1964, when it was established, the Tyumen Industrial Institute (as the University was referred to initially) had 11 departments and 115 lecturers. 750 students embarked on their first year program. Today about 40 thousand students study on 72 courses in 66 departments. During the 40 years of its existence the University has awarded diplomas to more than 60 thousand graduates – that is equal to a whole city's worth of valuable experts!........( continued )

The TSOGU provides excellent structure for education of about 40 000 students in 72 specialities, including both properly technical ones and humanities such as "Management", "Commodity research and expertise", "Social work", "Designing", "Religion Study" and others. Not so long ago in the Kremlin Palace of Congresses there was an award ceremony for the winners of the 4th All-Russia competition “Russian establishment of high social efficiency”. 700 leading companies with the most advanced social programs were competing for the title of The Best. The result? Tyumen State Oil and Gas University was the leader among the nominations in the “Science and Education” category and won the main prize – a Diploma of the Government of Russian Federation ……( continued )
